Carrie Bernard

Carrie Bernard is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the University of Toronto and an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Family Medicine at McMaster University. She completed her MPH in Community Health and Epidemiology with a focus in Global Health in 2012. She was the first family physician to sit on Public Health Ontario’s Provincial Infectious Disease Advisory Committee for Communicable Diseases and did so from 2012-2018.

She has a strong interest in ethical issues as they relate to global health and public health and is currently the principal investigator on a grant evaluating a novel ethics curriculum for Family Medicine residents. She has been practicing Family Medicine in Brampton, Ontario since 1999 and was the lead physician of the Queen Square Family Health Team from 2013-2015. Dr. Bernard worked in Northern Uganda with Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) in 2004-2005 and is a part of MSF’s Peer Support Network for expatriate workers returning from the field. She has been a member of the Humanitarian Health Ethics Research Group since 2013.
