Gautham Krishnaraj

Gautham Krishnaraj is a PhD Health Policy Candidate with the Humanitarian Health Ethics Research Group and Michael G. DeGroote Doctoral Scholarship of Excellence recipient. His research focuses on ethical innovation in humanitarian contexts, and is funded by the UK-based Humanitarian Innovation Fund.

Gautham’s research is highly interdisciplinary and aims to integrate ethics as a facilitating rather than inhibiting factor of innovation. He has sought out numerous industry connections throughout the research process, establishing connections with Grand Challenges Canada, The World Food Programme Innovation Accelerator, and the European Commission High Tech For Humanitarian Aid Prize. Gautham has also established himself as a dynamic humanitarian ethics and training consultant with over eight years of experience and clients including the Canadian Red Cross, Johns Hopkins Centre for Humanitarian Health, the University of Laval, Western University, and more. In 2017-2018 he was an Aga Khan International Development Management Fellow working on Early Childhood Development projects across East Africa. He has served as a National Youth Advisor and as domestic surge response personnel with the Canadian Red Cross.

Gautham previously completed his Masters in Global Health from McMaster University, graduating as Faculty of Health Sciences Valedictorian. For his MSc thesis on palliative care in humanitarian context, he was awarded the Dean’s Award for Excellence in Communicating Research and McMaster Faculty of Health Sciences Graduate Programs Award of Excellence. Gautham also holds a BSc. in Microbiology & Immunology from McGill University.
