Takhliq Amir

Takhliq Amir is a current MD student at the Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine, McMaster University. She previously completed her bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences (Honours) with a Global Health Specialization, also at McMaster University.

She is interested in working at the intersection of clinical medicine and global/public health, particularly with an emphasis on implementation research, knowledge translation and health policy. Her past experiences have conveyed the complexity of addressing the systems-level barriers faced by vulnerable populations globally, and have also demonstrated the use of policy and research to effectively translate knowledge into the implementation of initiatives in different contexts worldwide.

In 2017-2018, she worked with the Canadian Institute of Health Research’s Institute of Population and Public Health (CIHR-IPPH) as a Research Assistant on the national Healthy Cities initiative, where her responsibilities included evaluating and synthesizing evidence from both scientific and grey literature, along with information from consultations, into executive reports for dissemination to internal and external partners. During her undergraduate studies, she completed a project with a research team that was part of the International Program Evaluation (IPE) unit at the SickKids Centre for Global Child Health. In this role, she evaluated community health worker (CHW) supervision data from Mali to analyze the relationship between CHW training and individual and community health outcomes. 

Since 2017, she has been working with HHE providing research support for various projects including the ‘Aid when there is nothing left to offer’ study, specifically on the natural disasters sub-study.
