Context:

Funded by ELHRA, the objective of this initiative was to develop an ethics toolkit to support the work of the Humanitarian Innovation Fund (HIF). The Humanitarian Grand Challenge – Grand Challenges Canada also contributed to the project as a piloting partner and knowledge user.

Project:

We used an iterative design approach, with seven steps:

  1. Scoping Review of academic and gray literature related to ethics in humanitarian innovation.
  2. Stakeholder Interviews with key informants with varied experiences and perspectives related to humanitarian innovation
  3. Case Study development
  4. Expert Consultation Workshops to receive feedback on the preceding steps and emergent ideas for the toolkit
  5. Toolkit Development, incorporating expert feedback through multiple review cycles.
  6. Pilot Testing by applying the toolkit with HIF grantees to assess practicality and usability.
  7. Refinement and Dissemination of the completed toolkit
